He is a great example of everything that is good with the community. He is open, honest and raw about who he is and the journey he’s on. More importantly he’s supportive to others in the community. He’s active, he’s engaged and he cares. His advocacy is to make the journey better for the next person and that in my book is all we can ask of each other!! Cliff notes: He’s a good solid dude. So please take a moment and celebrate Michael‘s fifth anniversary of changing his life. Anniversary’s are a great time to remind us why we started and where we are going. -Keith His bio below: I have been battling obesity for the majority of my life until back in 2012 my father passed away due to complications with Diabetes. That was a wake up call for me to get serious about my health not only for my sake but for the sake of my wife and especially sons. I realized that had I not taken a step in the right direction I was in serious risk of orphaning my kids before I turned 40 and the mere thought of another man raising my sons scared me to death. I did a ton of research on the right option for me and ultimately decided to have the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy in January of 2015. I have subsequently lost 129 pounds and have gone from 5XL scrubs to XL. CHANGE: Let’s talk about it. In honor of today’s celebration of the great Dr. King; I wanted to have a community conversation about change in us and around us. Change can be big or small. A change in your daily routine or a change in the fabric of our community. Don’t be afraid of either. I started wlstories because I wanted to see a change in the support community that was available when I started my journey. Seven years later, 500k people interact on the multiple platforms. Theres a lot of change I want to see in the world, a lot of wrongs that need to be righted but that all starts with an idea and a few people brave enough to do something about it. Change requires work. What would you like to work on in yourself, in our own community or in this world. IMPORTANT: Don’t underestimate what you can do simply by putting your mind to it. If you want change... YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN! Every great ideas started with a simple thought in a human head. IMPORTANT: We are a support community. Today we celebrate @travelingketocat Before prioritizing my health, I could barely walk a mile without my knees flaring up from the extra weight on my body. Two years ago, I started by focusing on my unhealthy eating habits, eliminating tempting foods in my house & tracking my portions. I never thought those small steps & 5k runs would lead me to run an entire marathon at the happiest place on earth! I'm proud of this NSV because there were so many times during those 26 miles, my inner demons told me to just quit. But just like I've never quit on my health journey, I focused on the end result, taking it one step at a time. Those small steps all lead to me completing my 1st marathon!! I struggled for years with my weight. The number on the scale owned me, it controlled me. I decided in January 2017 to take charge of my life. I have three amazing children that I want walk through life with and not just merely existing!! They deserve more than that and so do I!! I lost a total of 165lbs. I have recently regained a fraction of that back but THATS OKAY!!! The old me would have self sabotaged and continued to let the scale climb! The Fitaversary thing is unique to the community. The outside world likely doesn’t understand its significance. It’s soooo easy to get lost in this journey. A fitaversary allows us to remember our why, renew our journey and sometimes more importantly realign it. I kinda feel weird talking about myself... I always do. But I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about new chances. Every moment is a new chance. YOU CAN START TODAY. It had nothing to do with a New Years resolution but I was one of the tens of thousands who get a membership after New Years and say to themselves ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I will become a new me. There is something pushing these people, it's likely painful. Embrace them. SHOW THEM LOVE and KINDNESS. BE A FREAKING WLSTORIES AMBASSADOR!!! Shine so freaking bright you make people THANK GOD for putting out in their lives!!! The majority of these people won't be seen after feb 14th we can save them all. But we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE a help a few more people make it past feb by showing these people THEY BELONG. After you climb over a wall it is your duty as decent human beings and as members of the Wlstories community to reach down a hand and help someone up. Physically, mentally, spiritually: BE A FRIEND. Even those who don’t celebrate I hope your day is filled with happiness, joy and unconditional love! Christmas is a time of ideals. A time when we can all come together and celebrate friends, family and the Holy Spirit. It’s a time of warmth and comfort in every possible form and function. No Christmas is perfect, the only perfect part of Christmas is YOU. You are perfect in every way! The love you give to others unconditionally, you deserve to give to yourself!! Tonight as we sit down for Christmas dinner remember the following: ENJOY the lil moments in life. Embrace them. The goal of this journey is not a number on a scale but a smile on your face. Your value does not come from what your friends, family say or think about you. Hopefully they are supportive and love you...if not that’s ok too! They are humans just like you struggling to figure this whole deal of life out and sometimes miss the point. Meet: @sagapolutele_al , Heaviest - 485lbs, Total: Meet: @sagapolutele_al , Heaviest - 485lbs, Total: 240lbs lost. I was in a terrible place physically & mentally, drinking tons & eating horribly. Even after a heart attack in 2013, left me with 3 stents, I lost some weight but eventually fell back to old my ways. Ailments included knee/ankle pain, spinal stenosis, sleep apnea, & more – I didn’t get to 485lbs cause life was awesome - I was depressed & desperate for change. . July 2016, I was in the process of getting gastric bypass. I decided to try losing it naturally. CrossFit – it changed/saved my life. The CF community has been an excellent support system. Life has improved tremendously & I feel fantastic! Workouts are hard but what is HARDER is living as a 500lbs man. Life is too precious. Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed. CrossFit works for me, find what works for you! Starting Tip: Set realistic goals - Start slow, be patient, & remain focused. Practice Good Nutrition & sleep well for recovery. Meet: @seemeghan In 2017 I was a single broke mom Meet: @seemeghan In 2017 I was a single broke mom working over 50 hrs a week I had always been a larger woman but die to stress at work and in life I'd developed a full blow eating addiction and binge eating disorder. I felt trapped and alone. I wanted better for mine and my daughters life but couldnt control my eating. One day I woke up sick and tired of being sick and tired. I decided I was worthy of a positive healthy happy life. It didnt happen over night it took a lot of time to make slow and gradual healthy lifestyle changes. Eating less processed foods and more healthy fruits veggies and lean meats. At 420lbs my mobility was limited and I had excruciating arthritis flare ups in my back but after 3 months of eating better and losing weight I began to practice yoga in the mornings and walk on my lunch breaks at work. After 17 months I hit my goal weight losing 240lbs. I still continue to make small healthier changes to lifestyle everyday pushing to be a better healthier and happier mom. Starting Tip: Start small. Focus on making 1 change at a time and keep working your way to a lifestyle you love and will enjoy the rest of your life. ________________ How has the Wlstories community influenced your journey? Meet: @pattysfitnessjourney this is @mywlstories I Meet: @pattysfitnessjourney this is @mywlstories I spent years not knowing how to keep weight off.  I became sedentary and turned down any adventure that my family would take on because I was too heavy and out of shape.  Then in 2011, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and spent a year on a steroid and I put in even more weight.  However, in 2016, I met someone who taught me about food and as I changed my eating I put my RA into remission and I list 75 pounds.  Today I no longer turn down adventure and my story is “reclaiming my life.” Let me tell you.  It feels great! ________________ WHAT DOES WLSTORIES MEAN TO YOU? I think a very important part of a successful weight loss journey is the community you surround yourself with. The more support you have, the easier it is to be successful. Meet: @kayla.fitlife I have struggled with my weig Meet: @kayla.fitlife I have struggled with my weight since 6th grade, and even then I didn’t know it was a problem. It wasn’t until I was taking a hoodie off and my shirt underneath came up exposing my stomach and a boy called me gross, that’s when I started to notice. I had always been active before that, I played softball for years, basketball, gymnastics and was a cheerleader. And then in 5th grade it all came to a stop when my dad died. I turned to food for comfort because it tasted good and made me feel good. I continued to gain weight, in 8th grade I could barely fit in a size 18 jeans. After 9th grade my sister was diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately lost her battle and I continued to turn to food for comfort. I struggled with my weight up and down since then and in 2016 I weighed myself and I was 274 pounds. I decided it was finally time for a LIFESTYLE change. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t. The lowest that I got down to was 207 and I stopped. Life got in the way and I was so exhausted I just didn’t give 100%. I put back on 30 pounds and now I’m back at it. I’ve joined a HIIT program and have started to change my relationship with food. I’ve gained confidence in myself and have realized that I am worth all of the hard work and effort. Starting Tip: YOU CAN! EVERYONE had a day one, EVERYONE started somewhere. ________________ How has the Wlstories community influenced your journey? Answer: The @wlstories community has been such an inspiration for me, often times when I have felt unmotivated it has helped me to keep going with my journey. Meet: @cuttingcarbscarmen 🇦🇺 I’m 23 and ha Meet: @cuttingcarbscarmen 🇦🇺 I’m 23 and have lost 121 lbs. I’ve have been overweight for most of my life, I became morbidly obese and my highest weight was 144kg (318 Lbs). I had VSG surgery on the 5th of July this year because I had tried almost every other method to lose weight with minimal success and always gaining the weight back + more! So far I am 5 months post-op and all up I have lost just over 55kg For the longest time I didn’t have much hope, I just couldn’t see it, I was so petrified because I could see myself heading towards a life full of weight related illnesses but then I discovered WLS and did lots of research and just knew it was for me. I’m taking this new lifestyle and tool with both hands and finally putting all my dreams, hopes and goals into action in hopes for a healthy and happy longer life. To me body positivity means appreciating everybody and every body’s beauty, in all forms whether it be shape, size, colour etc, working towards loving yourself through every stage of the journey. I have been documenting my journey online to keep myself accountable but also I am loving this community to bits! Starting Tip: Being in the mindset of really wanting this healthier lifestyle and be willing to do whatever it takes and never look back! Meet: @scott_inspires I’m Scott, and I'm just st Meet: @scott_inspires I’m Scott, and I'm just starting my journey as an Inspirational Speaker. Very long story short - I'm the last person living in my immediate family by age 33 - My mom passed away from cancer when I was 12 years old. My dad passed away in August 2017 after being on Dialysis for 7 years. And my sister passed away from her 8-year battle with Ocular Melanoma on Feb. 1st. Today literally starts Year 3 on my journey. Since Dec 11, 2017, I've lost 110 pounds and maintained it. I went from 268 -----> 158. I made a goal for myself to do my Elliptical 365 days in a row - I ended up doing 370 days in a row! I want to inspire the world that you don't have to be defined by your circumstances and never have regrets. My Mantra - Please Just Start What I'm hoping to inspire you to do is... “Don't wait for something negative to happen in your life for you to make the positive change you always think about." The Wlstories community has influenced my journey by being a true community. It's nice to be able see other people's journey and know none of us are alone. I look forward to being more active on this platform. Starting Tip: Please Just Start - That may sound simple, but if it were that easy, everyone would do it. I made that goal for myself to do my Elliptical every day for a year. If I didn't start Day 1, I would never have gotten to Days 2 - 5 and so on. ________________ How has the Wlstories community influenced your journey? Meet: @_findinghealthy_ I began losing weight as a Meet: @_findinghealthy_ I began losing weight as a woman who felt trapped in her body. I couldn’t walk up stairs, play sports, or fit comfortably in airplane seats. My main priority for weight loss was getting my life back! How I lost the weight: I started tracking my food, specifically my macros, and ate a particular amount of carbs, proteins and fats! I started following a workout routine and lifting weights and doing HIIT cardio 4-5 times a week! Once it all began it was easy to stay motivated mainly through taking before and “now” photos. I avoided weighing myself too frequently or restricting myself too much! For me, it was a slow process by choice because I wanted to be mindful and healthy throughout! I hope to use my Instagram account to inspire people around the world to practice mindful healthy routines to improve their mind, body and spirit. I focus on healthy eating, self care, and education! Starting tip: My greatest advice is tracking your macronutrients! It made weight loss so much easier because balance was so attainable! With that, daily movement is so important for your mental and physical health! Whether it’s yoga, running, or lifting weights! People ask me why I run this page; After all it's a non profit, no ads and I've lost hundreds of hours and even some money running this page. This page helps keep me accountable on my own journey (@6months100pounds) I've lost over 170lbs! Weight loss is a lifestyle over a lifetime. Its not a short fix. It's so easy to wake up a year later with all the weight gained back. Meet: @zardyplants I reached my highest weight rig Meet: @zardyplants I reached my highest weight right before my wedding. I was miserable in a terrible job and was eating my feelings. I’ve lost over 65 pounds and had weight loss success with intermittent fasting and a whole food plant based diet! What drove me was wanting to be able to be there for my husband and make our situation better. I knew something had to change. I started losing weight on our honeymoon and I came back from the trip having lost 12 lb. So I kept going because it was addictive how much better I felt. Not because I was thinner, but because I was finally doing something positive for myself. it was a little bit of belief that I was trying to build in myself every single day, every time I made a good choice, like going to the gym or eating a salad. Those changes build up over time. I am learning to be positive about my body. I still have a lot of weight to lose. I want to get stronger. I will keep going. my husband and I are on this weight loss journey together. We have lost almost 120 lb together and we won't stop. Starting tip: Start making little positive changes. One good choice after another. Make a little challenges with yourself like go to the gym everyday for a week and then two weeks. Once you build the structure of something it will become a habit. ________________ How has the Wlstories community influenced your journey?
